FYI - Safe Schools and Nutrition Breaks Parents play an important role in the education of their children and have a responsibility to support the efforts of the school staff in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. Some students have parental permission to leave the school during the nutrition breaks. It is important that these students return to school before classes resume. There are a few students who come back from breaks late on a regular basis. From now on, students will need a late slip to get back into class. Thanks for your help with this matter. Fundraising Money Last year School Council sent a survey home to find out how parents thought fundraising money should be spent. These were the priorities indicated - basketball court, music program, subsidize school activities, sports equipment and fence for the perimeter of the school. Therefore, money raised from all fundraising events will go towards these items. Remembrance Day Assembly On Friday, November 9, Riverview staff and students have been invited to attend the Remembrance Day Assembly at Rainy River High School. Parents/guardians are also invited. The presentation starts at 2:30 PM. Professional Development Day All RRDSB staff attended a Professional Development session at Fort Frances High School on October 29. The keynote speaker was David Bouchard, British Columbia’s best-selling author and most sought-after public speaker. His message is spelled out in his best selling books, The Gift of Reading and For the Love of Reading. He believes that the best gift we can give our children is to be a reader and read to them everyday. |

Welcome to Riverview On behalf of the school community, we would like to welcome Riverview School’s new staff members - Mr. Dalseg and Ms. Shumaker. Lisa Shumaker - Primary Teacher Ms. Shumaker will be teaching primary health/physical education and Grade 2/3 science in the afternoons. She graduated with an Education degree from Lakehead University last spring and has been teaching as an occasional teacher with the RRDSB ever since. Ms. Shumaker’s knowledge, energy and enthusiasm makes her an asset to Riverview School. Dane Dalseg - Grade 6/7 Teacher Mr. Dalseg will be teaching the Grade 6/7 class. He is also a graduate of Lakehead University’s Education program. He has been teaching in the junior/intermediate division at Our Lady of the Way School. Mr. Dalseg’s knowledge, experience and dedication to student achievement makes him a welcomed addition to Riverview School. Artist of the Month The Grade 4/5 students have been talking about Remembrance Day and what it means. They took class time to create some interesting art work, Remembrance Day Wreaths. This was a way to remember loved ones (and pets!). Shalese created a beautiful wreath and put a lot of care and time into making hers very special. Our Remembrance Wreaths are on display at the Rainy River Legion, and Shalese’s beautiful creation is hanging in our school office. Take a moment to remember one of your loved ones when you stop in and see it. |
