1990

The styles in 1990 were : Polar fleece example vests, jackets and tuques. Another popular syle was overalls. Teens wore them in two ways: with a belt and didn't do them up in the front or, to do up only one side of the straps and then leave the other side to hang. Cargo pants were also in. Now they are making a come back. They were large legged pants with pockets down your leg usally come in blue, black, white, cream, or beige. Tattoos were another big thing in the 90's. Formerly the preserve of gang members, jail birds, and other rebles. Tattoo's are now so common that even teenagers have them. You used to get a tattoo to stand out. Now you get one to fit in. Fanny Packs were purses tha strap arouns your waist. Popular in the '90's now its a fashion faux pas.

 

 

1991

 

One of the most popular style of shoes were Sam and Libby flats. They were ballerina dress shoes that came in different colours. They had small "cool" looking bows on the shoes. Spiral perms were in as well. Long spiraly curls like Mariah Carey were popular.

 

 

 

1992

Baby doll dresses. Every girl had one. They were a very cute dress that made you look like a baby. Teens also went for the grunge look through the early ninties. Many of the 1990-1991 looks still held up.

 

1993

Plastic rubbery bracelets were a big thing in '93. They could be glittery, solid in colour, or clear. They went with everything you wore, dressy or not. There were also shirts that were called Hyper Colour Shirts. They were shirts that you bought in one colour, then when you wore them and your body changed tempature, the colour of the shirt also changed. Like from blue to pink. Also in were back pack purses. They were mini backpacks used as purses.

 

1994

Nike was becoming more popular in '94. Nike was the most popular sports wear in the '90's. Canvas shoes were also in. Canvas shoes were worn with tappered pants or scrunch socks. Half heart necklaces were very popular in the early 1990's partly because of some celebs mysterious half heart necklaces on t.v. Levi brand t-shirts that had sayings like "button your fly" on them in very large letters. These were very popular in the early 1990's. Tube socks were also in. They were calf-high socks that didn't have a seam where the heal went. They were worn with sneakers and shorts, they were usually kind of squeezed down so they'd wrinkle.

 

1995

Mini ball-and- chain necklaces with a charm on them. The charm was usally flower, or a smiley face or a peace sign. Some had no charm. School girls wore them two or three at a time. Thigh High stockings were over the knee stockings that girls wore with very short skirts. They were introduced in '95. The two basic colours were black and white.

 

 

1996

 

Starter Coats were big, puffy and comfortable to wear. Double shirts were popular in '96. Kids who wore a long sleeved shirt with a t-shirt over top. Tommy clothing was very hip and in with teens in the 90s. It is still in today. Guess jeans came in a variety of colours. Guess also sold shirts.

 

 

1997 - 1999

 

White hair bands were a narrow elastic white hair band worn near the front of the hair. Adidas wind pants were noisy, light pants that came in lots of colours with a black or white stripe down the side. Butterfly clips were small plastic clips in the shape of a butterfly that girls wore in their hair by the dozen.

 

 

2000-2004

 

Some of the most popular things today are piercings. Getting your tounge, bellybutton, eyebrow ect. Just about anything you could get pierced. Everyone has one it is somthing cool. Gap sweaters are in. They come in all colours, made of polar fleece. They say GAP on the front in large letters. They aslo have a pouch in the front. JNCO are big baggy jeans. Very popular among teenage crowds. Hawaiian prints were in. Every thing from necklaces to shirts, and shorts that had Hawaiian flowers or sayings on them like "Aloha". Scorts are shorts with a flap over the front to give the apperance of a skirt. They appeared in the late 90's and are still popular today. Friendship jewlery is in now. It can be a set of bracelets, necklaces, or rings. You kept one, and gave one to your friend. Baggy jeans are now in. They are worn both by girls and boys. The baggier the better. Bandanas are a huge fashion statement. You can wear them any where you want. Chokers are stretchy nacklaces that you slip over your head or you can buy a kind that fastens around your neck. Hena is not quite a tattoo. You can buy a kit and DIY at home.
