
This is Rainy River in the early days. The mill and Beaver Mills, is in the background. In 1895 some men from Bemidji, Minnesota built a saw mill along the Rainy River close to where Riverview School now is. Later it was called Beaver Mills Lumber Company.It became a large sawmill with a busy town nearby.
In our research we found out why the name of the town of Beaver Mills was changed to a town now called Rainy River. This was because the constuction steel and equipment required for the building of the railway bridge was shipped to the Rainy River and not to Beaver Mills. At this point the railroad and town became Rainy River. (The name stuck.)
