PARENT'S ROLE IN EDUCATION

Parent’s role in Education

Past: One Room School House (100 years ago)

Many parents had never gone to school themselves.

Parents had to supply the children’s books and slates.

Parents had to send their children walking to school.

Sometimes in the winter, the children took a horse

       and sleigh.

Parents bought the school supplies at the local General store or from the T. Eaton Company.

Parents seldom went to the school to visit because they were too busy at home working.

Present day schools ( today 2004)

All parents now have been to school. Many have gone to college or university.

The schools now have all the books and most of the supplies that the children need.

Parents can drive their children to school or send them on the bus.

We buy school supplies wherever we shop: Walmart, Zellers, Costco, Buck or Two, True Value, or Drug Store.

Parents often visit the school or stop to pick up children or talk to the teacher.
