Mrs. Joy Bourre Pratt #1 (1931 - 1940)
• School had a big barrel stove in the middle of the room, a foot pedal organ and blackboards at the front of the room.
• Children played games such as ball and tag. They enjoyed nature walks.
• People in the rural area were very friendly.
• Children walked to school . Some occasionally used a horse.
• Christmas concert was the highlight of the year for the children and families. Families held a dance to raise money to buy a gift for each child at school.
• An inspector came once a year to visit the school and talk with the teacher. When he visited, the children were carving pumpkins.
• Children brought own books and supplies. Teacher got extra work from teachers in Fort Frances. It was very difficult to go there and get it.
• She boarded with a family in the community.
• She taught 8 grades.
• Children participated in a Fall Fair in Sleeman.
