Mrs. Joy Bourre Pratt #1 (1931 - 1940)

  

        School had a big barrel stove in the middle of the room, a foot pedal organ and blackboards at the front of the room.

 

        Children played games such as ball and tag. They enjoyed nature walks.

 

        People in the rural area were very friendly.

 

        Children walked to school . Some occasionally used a horse.

 

        Christmas concert was the highlight of the year for the children and families. Families held a dance to raise money to buy a gift for each child at school.

 

        An inspector came once a year to visit the school and talk with the teacher. When he visited, the children were carving pumpkins.

 

        Children brought own books and supplies. Teacher got extra work from teachers in Fort Frances. It was very difficult to go there and get it.

 

        She boarded with a family in the community.

 

        She taught 8 grades.

 

        Children participated in a Fall Fair in Sleeman.
