I would like to have gone to school in a one room school because the school had a box stove and had grades 1 - 8 and it had only one room. You had to have spelling bees, work with slates, lots of times tables and there was no playground. The teacher had to stay at a student’s house for six weeks and girls had to wear dresses. They had to do chores and they had lots of Christmas concerts. You had to bring your lunch in buckets or baskets. Emily

I would like to have gone to school in a one room school because I would like to live in the prairie. I could ride my horse to school and pick wild flowers when I walked to school. At recess we could play fox and geese in the winter. The teacher would only use the birch rod only if you were bad. Sometimes there were no janitors to clean up the one room school house.
